COVID-19 do vi-rút có tên là SARS-CoV 2 gây ra. Nó là một phần của họ vi-rút corona, bao gồm các loại vi-rút phổ biến gây ra nhiều loại bệnh từ cảm thông thường hoặc viêm phế quản đến các bệnh nghiêm trọng hơn (nhưng hiếm gặp hơn) như hội chứng hô hấp cấp tính nghiêm trọng (SARS) và Hội Chứng Hô Hấp Trung Đông (MERS). Giống như nhiều loại vi-rút đường hô hấp khác, vi-rút corona lây lan nhanh chóng qua các giọt nhỏ mà bạn bắn ra khỏi miệng hoặc mũi khi bạn thở, ho, hắt hơi hoặc nói.
